Biography

Born in Switzerland, Nathan Stornetta is a film and media composer of undeniable versatility. Tackling different styles of music, he has shown his talent across many musical genres (orchestral, jazz, pop, sound design).

Recent projects

Since his return from recording percussion in L.A. for John Favreau’s The Lion King in 2019 (music by Hans Zimmer), Nathan Stornetta has been working from his studio in Switzerland on the new Puy du Fou España creation: El Sueño de Toledo, Spain’s biggest live action show. Four further shows followed in March 2021, some of which written together with Martin Batchelar, Samuel Pegg and Enrica Sciandrone.
The soundtracks were recorded at London’s AIR Studios, gathering a selection of musicians from prestigious ensembles such as the London Symphonic or the Royal Philharmonic Orchestras, the London Voices, and featuring world-class soloists such as Richard Harvey, Pedro Eustache, Clara Sanabras, Jesus Mendez, Guillhem Desq, Isabel Villanueva and Amine Mraihi.

Nathan is active in concert music as well, as illustrated by his Concerto for Percussion and String Orchestra, which premiered at the 2021 Jura Festival, featuring the talented Marianna Bednarska (1st Prize at the 2020 Geneva Competition) and the Festival du Jura string ensemble, lead by Konzertmeister Felix Froschhammer.

In 2022, Stornetta composed the music for The Secret of Wakany, a Canal+ advertising campaign. His 2023 projects include a collaboration with the Graubünden Chamber Philharmonic Orchestra (creation of a Balkan suite), while starting work on the 2023 season’s latest show of Puy du Fou France; Le Mime et l’Étoile.

Early career

Soon after completing a Masters in Film Composition with distinction at London’s Royal College of Music, Nathan was offered a position in Hans Zimmer’s London studio where he worked as a technical assistant and arranger, thus taking part in some of Hollywood’s biggest productions.

Since 2013, Stornetta has been the main composer to Puy du Fou’s spectacular large-scale shows (Le Dernier Panache, Le Ballet des Sapeurs, Le Signe du Triomphe). In 2014, he joined Zimmer in Los Angeles at Remote Control Productions working as an additional composer on projects such as Chappie (Neil Blomkamp), NBC Premiere Champion Boxing, and The Little Prince (Mark Osborne), allowing him to meet and collaborate with Richard Harvey.

In 2016 and 2017, Nathan was invited to be part of the “core” band for the Hans Zimmer Live project, touring the world and playing alongside musicians such as Johnny Marr, Tina Guo, Guthrie Govan and Nick Glennie-Smith. In 2018 he also contributed three tracks to the James Horner tribute album (Sony Classics, 2017), sharing the playlist with renowned arrangers such as Bill Connor.
